Major drug operation closure in Gympie, QLD

Detectives have charged more than 30 people and seized drugs, weapons and cash following raids at multiple properties in the Gympie area in the past week, Queensland Police say.

Gympie CIB detectives executed 20 search warrants at properties in Gympie, Monkland, Southside, Araluen, East Deep Creek, Bollier, Cooloola Cove and Wallu between Tuesday and Sunday.

The operation was conducted with the assistance of Tactical Crime Squad, Task Force Maxima and the Dog Squad.

A total of 31 people were arrested on 94 charges with 4.5kg of Cannabis, a quantity of ‘Ice’, $83,000 in cash, 13 weapons including rifles, knuckle dusters, a taser and flick knives and other property seized during the raids.

Among those arrested was a 23-year-old Monkland man who was charged after detectives allegedly uncovered six firearms including shotguns and rifles, a taser, quantities of ‘Ice’ and cannabis and $75,000 in cash during the search of a Southside property on March 13.

He was charged with 13 offences including six counts of unlawful possession of a weapon, two counts each of possessing dangerous drugs and drug utensils and one count each of possessing a shortened firearm, unauthorised possession of explosives (ammunition) and possessing property suspected of being the proceeds of an offence.

He appeared in the Gympie Magistrates Court on March 14 where he received bail to reappear in the same court on June 25.

Investigations as a result of the operation are continuing and may result in further charges being laid.
