More than $80 million will be pumped into Queensland’s economy this summer thanks to a blockbuster line-up of events.
The list of events includes the Australian PGA Championship, Woodford Folk Festival, Magic Millions Carnival, the Brisbane International and the recently announced Eurovision: Australia Decides.
Tourism Industry Development Minister Kate Jones said the summer of events would deliver strong outcomes for the state’s tourism industry.
"This summer will deliver a huge economic return for Queensland’s economy," she said.
"These figures just go to show we’ve nailed the formula for events. The government invests in major events because they are proven to lure more visitors and create more tourism jobs in Queensland.
"We’re not just introducing new events – we’re finding new ways to grow existing events that already deliver a strong return for our economy.
"Tourism and Events Queensland has worked hard to establish Queensland’s reputation as the best destination in Australia for major events. Over the next few months we’ll continue to build on that.
"Queensland will be hosting everyone from professional golfers, artists and musicians from around the world, the best of the country’s horse-racing industry, as well as the Australian cricket team in a day-night Test between Australia and Sri Lanka at the Gabba in January."

- 2019 The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions Carnival
- Pacific Fair Magic Millions Polo
- Australian Youth Water Polo Championships
- Domain Day-Night Test
- Eurovision: Australia decides
Ms Jones said people would travel from around Australia and the world to experience what Queensland had to offer.
"From now until February, we expect 12 key events to attract 43,000 interstate and international visitors to Queensland, generating more than 400,000 visitor nights and contributing more than $80 million to the Queensland economy. That’s $15 million more than summer last year," she said.
"Events like the Woodford Folk Festival, the Australian PGA Championship and the Gold Coast Magic Millions Carnival will deliver for Queensland.
"When it comes to major events the Palaszczuk Labor Government has the runs on the board.
"We’ve more than doubled the value of the state’s major events calendar – this year generating $780 million for Queensland."
