Making Health Care More Accessible For Residents On North West And West Coast

Liberal Tasmania
  • Jeremy Rockliff Premier, Minister for Tourism, Minister for Trade and Major Investment, Member for Braddon
  • Residents on the far North West and West Coast of Tasmania needing to travel for health care will have more access to transport options under a re-elected Liberal Government.

A re-elected Liberal Government will invest in three additional vehicles for Community Transport Services Tasmania (CTST), providing access for another 4,000 trips each year.

Premier Jeremy Rockliff said the Liberals had heard from the community about their desire for more transport services in the region for when they need to travel to access health care.

"These door to door transport services will go a long way to helping support our most vulnerable to access the health care they need, no matter where they live," Premier Rockliff said.

"By investing in CTST, we can ensure even more Tasmanians who require transport to access health care can receive it."

Additional funding of $305,000 per year over three years will be provided to support this transport solution.

"A new CT scanner and associated infrastructure will also be installed at the West Coast Regional Hospital, under a re-elected Liberal Government.

"We are ensuring Tasmanians can access the health care they need, when and where they need it."

The Liberals also announced further paramedics are set to be deployed to the West Coast and Circular Head regions.

"We are investing $10 million each and every day into our health system so that we can reduce pressure on our hospitals and ensure Tasmanians can receive the care they need, sooner.

"As part of this record investment, we will employ three additional paramedics in Smithton, and upgrade the Smithton Ambulance Station to a double branch station, with a paramedic rostered on 24/7.

"Additionally, our successful community paramedic model is well underway caring for and treating Tasmanians in their own homes, instead of being transported to an Emergency Department.

"We anticipate two community paramedics will be in place in Queenstown by the end of 2025, with Smithton to follow in 2026."

Our Liberal Team is offering a clear plan, a united team, and the leadership to get on with it.

A majority Liberal Government is the only way to keep Tasmania moving forward with certainty, stability, and efficiency.

This election comes down to one choice: a strong Liberal team with a real plan or another merry-go-round of chaos.

    Let's get on with it.

Let's finish the job for Tasmania.
