Maleny Police Station opens its doors

Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services Mark Ryan and Acting Commissioner Peter Martin officially opened the new Maleny Police Station yesterday, Queensland Police say.

Acting Commissioner Martin said the station located on Macadamia Drive would service areas from Beerwah to Palmwoods and house one sergeant, two senior constables and one constable.

He said the district’s police were delighted to see a new facility open as the existing Maple Street station was built in 1952.

"The old station served the Sunshine Coast hinterland community very well, however it was purpose built for policing in the 1950s. We are more than 60 years on now and, as we well know, policing and the communities we serve have changed dramatically in that time," Acting Commissioner Martin said.

"This new state-of-the-art station features enhanced facilities for frontline policing with all the necessary functions to support our current and foreseeable future operations.

"These refurbishments represent yet another chapter in a long and proud history of the Queensland Police Service in Maleny."

The state-of-the-art facility includes interview rooms, a holding cell, workstations, a reception area, public toilets, equipment and exhibit stores, amenity areas and associated facilities, car parking, acoustic fencing as well as a driver licence issuing facility.
