Man and woman charged over street robbery in Smithfield

A man and woman have been charged over the alleged assault and robbery of a man in Smithfield overnight, NSW Police say.

About 10.30pm today, a 57-year-old man was standing on Victoria Road outside his tow truck when he was approached by a man and a woman.

The pair assaulted and robbed the man of an amount of cash before running from the area.

Police were alerted and attended the scene where an investigation was commenced.

Police from Strike Force Raptor, who were in the area at the time, arrested a 32-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man.

They were taken to Fairfield Police Station where the woman was charged with robbery in company and the man was charged with aggravated robbery.

Bail is yet to be determined.

The 57-year-old man suffered minor lacerations to his face, knees and hands.
