Man armed with shotgun arrested after foot pursuit at Dapto, NSW

Police have arrested a man who was armed with a shotgun following an armed robbery at Dapto, NSW Police say.

About 10.25pm on Sunday 23 December 2018, a man wearing a motorcycle helmet and armed with a shotgun entered a chemist on Bong Bong Road, Dapto.

The man allegedly threatened staff with the gun and struck one man in the face with the butt of the weapon, while demanding cash and drugs.

After being given an amount of cash and drugs, the man fled the scene towards the Princes Highway.

Here he was sighted by officers from Lake Illawarra detectives who commenced to chase the man on foot.

The man dropped the helmet and weapon on the Princes Highway before running into Baan Baan Street, where he was arrested by the detectives.

The 27-year-old has been taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station where he is assisting with inquiries. He is expected to face numerous charges.

The man who was struck with the gun received a laceration to his mouth as a result. He was treated on scene by Ambulance Paramedics.
