Man arrested after allegedly stealing and crashing car in Cabramatta

A man will face court today after allegedly stealing and crashing a car in Cabramatta yesterday, NSW Police say.

About 9.45am yesterday, a man left his Ford Falcon outside his home on the Hume Highway.

The man has told police that he saw another man get into his Ford Falcon and drive it away.

The man allegedly crashed the vehicle as he reversed the Ford onto the Hume Highway, and attempted to run, but was chased by onlookers.

After a short scuffle with onlookers, the man managed to break free.

He allegedly approached and entered another car, forcing the driver to drive for a short distance before being arrested by police.

The 37-year-old Cartwright man was taken to hospital for a short time before being released.

He was subsequently taken to Cabramatta Police Station where he was charged with a number of offences including; unlawfully take/drive motor vehicle with person in it, and drive whilst suspended.

He was refused bail and will appear in Liverpool Local Court today.
