Man Arrested After Crashing Into Hydrant in Shepparton

Police have arrested a man after a crash in Shepparton overnight.

Officers spotted a silver Ford sedan being driven erratically near the intersection of Welsford Street and Fryers Street about 1.05am.

With the assistance of the Air Wing, officers followed the vehicle, which was being driven at speed and missing a taillight, along the Midland Highway.

Police continued to follow the vehicle, and stop sticks were successfully deployed on Fryers Street.

The Ford continued on for a short distance before the driver lost control and hit a fire hydrant.

The driver, a 24-year-old Shepparton man, was not injured and attempted to flee the scene on foot.

He was swiftly arrested and remains in police custody.

The investigation remains ongoing.
