Man arrested after Epping siege

Police have arrested a 26-year-old man following a siege in Epping this afternoon, Victoria Police say.

Police attended a house on Wedge Street about 2pm to effect an arrest as part of an ongoing investigation by Darebin Crime Investigation Unit.

It’s alleged that police spoke to the man who initially exited the house but went back inside and refused to come out.

There were a number of other people in the house at the time who initially refused to leave and it is alleged that the man had a handgun.

Eventually all occupants left the premises and the 26-year-old was arrested just before 7pm.

He is currently assisting police with their enquires and the investigation continues.
