Man arrested after several car jackings and pursuits south of Sydney, NSW

A man has been arrested after several car jackings and pursuits in the Wollongong and Nowra areas, NSW Police say.

About 12pm today (Wednesday 5 December 2018), a Nissan Pulsar was stolen from Airds in Sydney’s south-west.

Officers from Campbelltown Police Area Command attempted to stop the car, however it failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated. It was terminated a short time later for safety reasons.

About 12.45pm the same day, a Toyota Corolla was stolen at knifepoint from a shopping centre on the Princes Highway, Figtree.

The stolen vehicle travelled to Osbourne Street, Wollongong, where it stopped alongside a Nissan Pulsar.

A 55-year-old woman was assisting a 90-year-old woman out of the vehicle when she was threatened by the man with a knife.

He then drove from the scene in the Pulsar. The 90-year-old woman was assessed by Ambulance Paramedics before being taken to Wollongong Hospital for observation.

About 3.50pm, a 27-year-old man was arrested following a pursuit with a stolen Hyundai Kona on the Princes Highway, Nowra.

This vehicle had also been stolen in a carjacking incident in Nowra today.

The man has been taken to Nowra Police Station where he is assisting with inquiries.
