Man arrested after siege, NSW

Police have charged a man following a siege on the Central Coast, this mornin, NSW Police sayg

About 1:20 today, police responded reports of a man armed with a knife at an address on Hawkesbury Close, Bateau Bay.

Police from Tuggerah Local Area Command responded and upon arrival were informed that the man had left the location.

Police with the assistance of the Dog Unit, conducted an extensive search but were unable to locate the man.

About 4:30am today, police were again called to a house on Hawkesbury Close, Bateau Bay, following reports that the man had returned and was allegedly armed with a knife, damaging property.

Police from Tuggerah Local Area Command responded and upon arrival, the man barricaded himself inside the house refusing to surrender to police.

Police negotiated with the man over several hours; however, he allegedly refused to comply with any police directions.

About 6:18am, the man attempted to leave the house and was confronted by police. The man was taken into custody following a struggle.

The 21-year-old man was taken to hospital due to a pre-existing medical condition.

The man is currently in Hospital under police guard.
