Man arrested after vehicle theft and pursuit in Sydney

A man has been arrested after he allegedly stole a vehicle and failed to stop for police in Sydney early this morning, NSW Police say.

Just after 1am tomorrow, a green Mitsubishi Pajero was stolen from a home on Campbell Street, Surry Hills.

A short time later police observed the Pajero travelling on Martin Road, Moore Park, and attempted to stop it.

The driver allegedly failed to comply and a pursuit was initiated.

It ended when the vehicle hit a concrete bollard and a tree, before rolling on its side near the corner of Martin Road and Robertson Road.

The driver, a 27-year-old man, exited the vehicle and ran from the scene; however, he was arrested and taken to St Vincent’s Hospital as a precaution. He is not believed to have any injuries.

Inquiries are ongoing.
