Man arrested as part of investigations into attempted ram-raids at Auburn

A man has been arrested following an investigation into two recent attempted ram-raids on a southwestern Sydney business.

Detectives from Auburn Police Area Command commenced an investigation after a Hino truck reversed into the front of a jewellery shop on Auburn Road, Auburn, about 12.45am on Sunday 31 January 2021.

Their initial inquiries revealed that another vehicle had been waiting nearby and picked up the male driver of the Hino, which had been stolen from Strathfield the day prior.

Just before 5am on Tuesday 2 February 2021, the same store was targeted by another stolen Hino truck attempting to reverse through the front. The male driver again fled the scene prior to police arrival.

Crime scenes were established after each incident and specialist forensic officers conducted various examinations and analysis.

Following extensive inquiries, Auburn detectives – assisted by the Raptor Squad – executed a search warrant at a home at Greenacre about 6.45am today (Thursday 25 February 2021).

A 34-year-old man was arrested at the home and has been taken to Auburn Police Station, where charges are expected to be laid.

Inquiries are continuing.
