Man arrested following Windsor taxi assault

Police have arrested a man following an alleged assault in Windsor overnight, Victoria Police say.

Police have been told the victim, a taxi driver, was flagged down by an unknown man on Chapel Street about 3.30am.

The driver asked the man to pay upfront and when he refused to do this told him that he would not drive him anywhere.

The man refused to get out of the taxi and then allegedly assaulted the victim.

He has then fled the scene leaving behind his mobile phone.

The victim received minor injuries and did not require ambulance attendance.

He then attended the St Kilda Police Station to report the assault and hand in the mobile phone which the man left behind.

About 12pm today, a man attended the St Kilda Police Station and advised a location tracking device had indicated that his lost phone may be at the station.

Police arrested the 35-year-old Brighton East man in relation to the assault and he is currently being interviewed by investigators.
