Man arrested in Altona North

Police have arrested a man after a crash in the Altona North area earlier today (6 January), Victoria Police say.

Police first sighted the white Holden Commodore with stolen number plates on Bacchus Marsh Road, Corio about 12.30pm.

An attempt was made to intercept the vehicle however it failed to stop for police and drove off.

Due to safety reasons, a police pursuit was not initiated.

The Commodore collided with a black Volkswagon Golf before allegedly driving erratically along the Princes Freeway towards Altona North. There was a man in the car at the time of the crash however he was not injured.

The Commodore then collided with a parked car on Chambers Road before crashing into a tree and a building.

An 18-year old man was arrested at the scene and conveyed to hospital with injuries.

He remains in custody and is assisting police with enquiries.
