Man arrested in connection to the murder of Kemel Barakat, NSW

Homicide Squad detectives have arrested a man over his alleged role in the murder of Kemel Barakat, NSW Police say.

Emergency services were called to a home unit on Bennett Street, Mortlake, about 2.30am on Friday 10 March 2017, following reports a man had been shot.

On arrival, police located the body of 29-year-old, Kemel Barakat. He had multiple gunshot wounds.

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad established Strike Force Yarramba to investigate the circumstances surrounding Mr Barakat’s death.

Following extensive inquiries, strike force detectives, assisted by the Public Order and Riot Squad, executed a search warrant at a home at Guildford about 6am today (Wednesday 8 November 2017).

A 28-year-old man was arrested and taken to Parramatta Police Station, where he is assisting with inquiries.

Shortly after, another search warrant was executed at a home at Lidcombe, and inquiries are continuing.

Police are urging anyone with information that may assist Strike Force Yarramba investigators to call Crime Stoppers.
