Man arrested in stolen car saga at Green Fields, SA

A man will face court following a bungled attempt at stealing a 4WD from a Green Fields business last night, according to SA Police.

Just before 6.30pm on Thursday 16 August, a man was finishing up work at a business on Ryans Road, when he heard his Nissan 4WD start-up and the engine revving loudly. He went outside to investigate and saw an unknown male in the driver's seat.

The owner of the car tried to open the car doors, but they were locked and the man driving started to reverse, but he drove straight into a garden bed and hit a fence.

The car owner then locked the gates to prevent his car from leaving and he called police.

A friend of the car owner then got his own car and blocked the 4WD in preventing it moving any further.

Whiled patrols were on the way the male trying to steal the car, also climbed onto the roof of the 4WD and tried to scale a wire fence, but he got his pants caught on the barbed wire.

When police patrols arrived they located the male still inside the 4WD.

A 36-year-old man from no fixed place with illegal use of a motor vehicle and property damage of the fence.

He has been refused police bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court later today.
