New South Wales detectives have arrested a man over the death of a woman, who allegedly underwent body modification surgery at his Central Coast tattoo shop, NSW Police say.
The body of the 30-year-old woman was discovered by her seven-year-old daughter in their Toowoon Bay home on Wednesday 12 April 2017.
A post mortem examination found septicaemia was the cause of death, specifically an infected right hand.
Detectives from the Brisbane Water and Tuggerah Lakes Police Districts formed a joint strike force, codenamed Nellievale following the incident.
Inquiries allegedly revealed the deceased woman had undergone body modification surgery to her hand three weeks prior to her death.
Police allege she complained about complications relating to the implant of a "plastic snowflake" under her skin shortly after the procedure.
Strike force officers have also been investigating a complaint by a second woman, who allegedly engaged the body modifier for a stomach procedure at his Erina business in November 2016.
Around midday today, (Monday 13 August), officers arrested the tattooist/body modifier at his Terrigal home.
The 37-year-old has been taken to the Gosford Police Station as detectives continue their inquiries.
The man is already facing a charge of prohibition of female genital mutilation, laid by Strike Force Nellievale detectives in May.
