A 33-year-old man has been charged by detectives from the State Crime Command’s Financial and Cyber Crime Group following an investigation into computer hacking and fraud including the online sale of non-existent tickets to Ed Sheeran’s upcoming Brisbane concerts, Queensland Police say.
Detectives will allege that a man contacted interested concert-goers on a non-authorised online ticket platform and offered to sell them tickets.
A number of people then paid the man for the tickets via a bank transfer, but never received them.
Detective Superintendent Terry Lawrence said Queenslanders had contacted police to report scams offering concert tickets on non-authorised, secondary resale sites.
"This is another clear example of buyer beware. I urge entertainment ticket buyers and all buyers of online products to keep control of their purchase.
"Only use the official authorised sellers and their platforms. Do not move away from those platforms to buy tickets or items, particularly if asked to. It is most likely you are being scammed."
The man has been charged with two offences of Fraud and is due to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on 3 April 2018 and investigations are continuing.
All victims were women aged from 40 to 55 years old and were from the Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
