A man has been arrested following the shooting death of a woman at Maitland this morning, NSW Police say.
About 3.20am tomorrow, emergency services were called to Bella Street, Horseshoe Bend, following reports of shots fired.
Police attended the scene and secured a perimeter.
A 60-year-old man exited the home and was arrested by police. He was taken to Maitland Police Station where he is assisting with their inquiries.
At the location, officers located the body of a woman. She is yet to be formally identified.
A second woman, aged in her early 30s, was at the location but uninjured.
A crime scene has been established and will be examined by forensic officers.
Detectives from Central Hunter Local Area Command and the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad are continuing with their investigations.
The man and the woman were known to each other.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
