Man assaulted and robbed in Nowra

Police are appealing for public assistance following an aggravated robbery on the state’s south coast last week, NSW Police say.

About 5pm on Thursday 29 September 2016, a 67-year-old man was walking his dogs through a cemetery on the corner of Kaladar Street and the Princes Highway, Nowra, when he saw an unknown man on a bicycle.

Police have been told the unknown man approached him on foot, hitting him on the head, before stealing his mobile phone and keys and fleeing the scene.

The 67-year-old was taken to Shoalhaven Hospital for treatment of lacerations to the back and top of his head.

Officers from Shoalhaven Local Area Command were notified and commenced an investigation.

As part of their inquiries, police would like to speak to a man who may be able to assist them.

The man is described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, aged in his 30s or 40s, about 170cm tall, of solid build, wearing long pants and a jumper. He was seen riding a bicycle towards Kinghorne Street.

Anyone who was in the area at the time, specifically a woman in a vehicle in the cemetery near Kalandar Street and the Princess Highway, is urged to come forward.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
