Man attempts to run over police officers in Leichardt

Investigations are underway after a man attempted to run over two officers in Leichardt last night, Queensland Police say.

Just after 12.30am, police attended a Larsen Street address in relation to a report of domestic violence.

As two police officers were crossing the road to go into the home, they heard a car engine revving.

The car then accelerated towards the pair and mounted the gutter.

Both officers had to run out of its path to avoid being hit.

The car continued along the footpath at high speed before driving back onto the road and heading off towards Toongarra Road before turning back towards officers but refused to stop.

A short pursuit was authorised, but due to the dangerous manner in which the vehicle was being driven, it was terminated.

A few hours ago, a 31-year-old Leichardt man was taken into custody.

He is currently assisting police with their enquiries.
