Man caught doing double the speed limit, NSW

A man has been caught travelling double the speed limit yesterday in Sydney Olympic Park.

About 5:15pm yesterday Traffic and Highway Patrol officers detected a grey Holden Commodore SS station wagon allegedly travelling at 120km/h in a 60km/h zone along Kevin Coombs Ave, Sydney Olympic Park.

Police stopped the vehicle and spoke with the drive, a 43-year-old man, from West Hoxton. , NSW Police say

The driver had his licence suspended for 6 months, and vehicle’s registration was cancelled on the spot, with the registration plates removed from the vehicle and sent to the Roads & Maritime Service for 3 months.

He was fined $2350 for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h.

Assistant Commissioner John Hartley of the state's Traffic & Highway Patrol Command said those speeding pay a heavy price for selfish behaviour on our roads. "Whilst this driver has faced a heavy fine, including licence of licence and access to his vehicle, sadly many others end up in either serious injury, or fatal crashes, which continues to cost lives on our roads. With the road toll currently at 272, 37 more than this time last year, those using our roads need to take control of their driving, riding, cycling, and pedestrian behaviour, rather than become another sad statistic."
