Man Caught Speeding 30km/h Over Limit on Bass Highway

Smithton Police detected a 27-year-old Smithton man travelling at 119 km/h through the 80km/h speed zone at the Stanley turnoff on the Bass Highway at 9.55pm on Tuesday.

The driver is the holder of a Provisional (P1) licence and received an infringement notice disqualifying him for a period of 3 months. He also received a fine of 6 demerit points and $828.75.

"Police remind motorists to remember that speeding is one of the fatal five contributing factors to fatal and serious injury crashes on our roads," said Sergeant Lee-anne Walters of Smithton Police.

"The junction this man was detected speeding at has had several serious crashes in the past. Significant changes have been implemented to this section of roadway including the reduction of speed to enhance safety.

"I implore all drivers to slow down and help police keep everyone safe on our roads."
