Man charged after barricade incident in Katoomba

A man will face court today after a barricade situation in the Blue Mountains region, NSW Police say.

Police were called to a health facility on Woodlands Road, Katoomba, about 2.30pm today, following reports a man was armed with a knife and threatening staff.

Officers attached to Blue Mountains Local Area Command attended and attempted to speak to a 38-year-old man, where it will be alleged the man produced a second knife.

About 4.30pm, with assistance from specialist police, the man surrendered and was arrested.

Following an assessment, he was taken to Katoomba police Station where he was charged with common assault, affray, assault police in the execution of duty, custody of knife in a public place and commit s114 offence (having previous conviction).

He was refused bail and is due to appear in Penrith Local Court tomorrow.
