Man charged after entering home in Newcastle

A man has been charged after he was allegedly found inside a home in Newcastle last night, NSW Police say.

Around 11.30pm today, police were called to Lewis Street, Maryville, after a female resident woke to find a man standing inside her lounge room, allegedly in his underpants.

The woman told the man to leave and he ran out the front door.

Police from Newcastle City Local Area Command attended and patrolled the area for the man.

A short time later, officers sighted a man running along Lewis Street in his underpants and arrested him.

He was allegedly carrying a pile of women’s clothing and a woman’s wig at the time.

The man was taken to Newcastle Police Station and charged with enter dwelling with intent and peep and pry.

He was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court tomorrow.
