Man charged after fatal crash near Cobar, NSW

A man has been charged following a fatal crash west of Cobar on Friday, NSW Police say.

Just before 11am (24 August 2018), emergency services were called to the Barrier Highway, about 125km west of Cobar, after reports a heavy rigid vehicle left the road and hit a tree.

A passenger, a 49-year-old man, died at the scene.

The driver, a 43-year-old man, was trapped for a short time before being released by witnesses.

He was treated at the scene and taken to Cobar Hospital, before being airlifted to Dubbo Hospital in a stable condition.

Police attached to the Crash Investigation Unit commenced an investigation into the crash.

Following inquiries, officers attended the hospital yesterday (Saturday 25 August 2018), where they charged the 43-year-old man with dangerous driving occasioning death and negligent driving occasioning death.

He was refused bail and remains under police guard in hospital to appear before a Dubbo Local Court registrar today (Sunday 26 August 2018).
