Man charged after fire destroys cafe in Parramatta

A man has been charged after a fire destroyed a Parramatta cafe and function centre in December last year, NSW Police say.

Emergency services were called to the cafe in Parramatta Park on O’Connell Street, about 10.10pm on Monday 26 December 2016, following reports of a fire.

Officers from Parramatta Local Area Command attended and assisted Fire & Rescue NSW as they extinguished the blaze.

The cafe and function centre was destroyed and damage caused by the fire is estimated at more than a million dollars.

Following investigations, detectives served a Future Service Court Attendance Notice on a 22-year-old man today.

He was charged with intentionally destroy property of fire.

The man is due to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Thursday 6 April 2017.
