Man Charged After Foreign Leader Visit in Sydney

A man will face court next month charged after allegedly following a foreign leader across Sydney this week.

On Monday 9 February 2026, officers patrolling the visit of a foreign leader observed a grey Mercedes station wagon travelling on Darling Drive, Haymarket.

Police allege the male driver pulled over and allegedly filmed the dignitary while using offensive language towards him, before leaving the area.

About 3.45pm on Tuesday 10 February, the same station wagon was travelling on Bondi Road, Bondi Junction, towards Waverley Crescent, and allegedly drove past a childhood education centre repeatedly.

A short time later, the station wagon stopped outside the centre and allegedly filmed and used offensive language towards a security guard.

Police were notified; however, the man left in his vehicle prior to officers arriving.

About 9.50am today (Thursday 12 February 2026), officers attached to the Counter Terrorism & Special Tactics Command observed the vehicle travelling on Canterbury Road, Belmore, and signalled for the driver to stop.

The driver - a 45-year-old man - was arrested and taken to Campsie Police Station.

There he was charged with stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm, behave in offensive manner in/near public place/school, and driver use mobile phone when not permitted.

The man was granted conditional bail to appear at Waverly Local Court on Wednesday 4 March 2026.
