Man Charged After House Fire North of Wollongong

A man has been charged following a house fire in the Illawarra last week.

About 6.40pm on Thursday 4 September 2025, emergency services were called to a home on Palmyra Avenue, Thirroul, following reports of a fire.

Officers attached to Wollongong Police District arrived to find the house well alight before Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze.

Police arrested a 49-year-old man before taking him to Wollongong Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

A crime scene was established, and investigations commenced into the circumstances surrounding the fire.

About 2:00pm yesterday (Tuesday 9 September) the man was discharged from hospital and taken to Wollongong Police Station.

He was charged with damage property by fire/exp >$15000 (DV) and breach of bail.

He was refused bail to appear in Bail Division Court 3 today (Wednesday 10 September 2025)
