Man charged after kidnapping and sexual assault, NSW

A man has been charged after an alleged kidnapping, break and enter and sexual assault in Albion Park Rail earlier this month, NSW Police say.

Emergency services were called to a house on the Princes Highway, Albion Park about 5pm on Wednesday 18 January 2017, following reports that a woman had been assaulted.

Initial investigations revealed that a man allegedly broke into a house and confronted a female resident. The man sexually assaulted the woman and punched her in the face before leaving the house.

Officers from Lake Illawarra Local Area Commanded attended the house and commenced an investigation into the incident.

As a part of the investigation, officers located a 21-year-old man on O’Riordan Street, Mascot. Upon seeing police, the man allegedly ran and officers chased him on foot.

Officers caught the man and a struggle ensued after he allegedly assaulted a police officer. The man escaped police however, in doing so drop two bags of drugs that were in his pockets.

About 11am today (31 October 2017), officers attached to Lake Illawarra Local Area Command with the assistance of the Dog Squad executed a search warrant at a home on Bradman Avenue, Warilla.

Police arrested the 21-year-old man in the house and he was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station and charged with the following offences;

- Aggravated break and enter,

- Aggravated sexual assault,

- Kidnapping,

- Break and enter,

- Two counts of assaulting police,

- Two counts of resisting arrest,

- Two counts of drug possession,

- Take and drive conveyance,

- And breaching his bail.

The man was refused bail and will appear before Wollongong Local Court tomorrow.
