Man Charged After Knives, Firearms Seized in Armidale

A man is due in court today charged after drugs and weapons were seized during a vehicle stop at Armidale yesterday.

About 9am (Tuesday 22 July 2025), officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command were patrolling the New England Highway when they stopped a ute for a random testing.

The driver – a 51-year-old man – was subjected to a roadside drug test, which allegedly returned a positive reading to methylamphetamine.

Extra resources from New England Police District were called and the vehicle searched with officers seizing a substance alleged to be methylamphetamine as well as two knives and five firearms from the vehicle.

He was taken to Armidale Police Station where an oral fluid sample was obtained and sent for further analysis.

About 3.15pm on the same day, police executed a search warrant at a home on Llangothlin Road, Guyra, where they seized another firearm with ammunition and drugs suspected to be methylamphetamine.

He was charged with possess prohibited drug, custody of knife in public place (two counts), acquire etc pistol-subject to firearms prohibition order (two counts), and possess unregistered firearm (six counts).

The man was refused bail to appear at Bail Division Court 5 today (Wednesday 23 July 2025).
