Man charged after making sexually explicit phone calls to random numbers, NSW

A man has been charged with numerous offences following an investigation into sexually explicit phone calls, NSW Police say.

Detectives from Bankstown Local Area Command and the State Crime Command’s Sex Crimes Squad established Strike Force Cicolini to investigate reports a man had been engaging in sexually explicit phone conversations with a 10-year-old girl.

Following extensive investigations, strike force detectives arrested a 49-year-old man at Revesby about 11.40am yesterday.

He was taken to Bankstown Police Station and charged with three counts of sexual assault by forced self-manipulation, five counts of use carriage service to engage in sexual activity with a child under 16, and four counts of use carriage service to menace/harass/offend.

Police will allege the man made numerous unsolicited calls to random phone numbers and engaged in sexually explicit conversations with the person who answered.

He was refused bail and appeared at Bankstown Local Court today, where he was formally refused bail to appear at Burwood Local Court on Wednesday 26 October 2016.

Investigations are continuing, and strike force detectives are appealing for anyone who may have received phone calls of a similar nature to come forward.

It is believed calls have been made to phone numbers across Australia.

Reports can be made on the Crime Stoppers.
