Man charged after officer injured during arrest in Carlton

A man has been charged after a police officer was allegedly injured while effecting an arrest at Carlton today, NSW Police say.

About 6.45pm (Saturday 2 June 2018), officers from St George Police Area Command attended a home at Railway Parade to arrest a man for an unrelated matter.

Police will allege another man at the home slammed a glass door onto the hands of an officer standing in the doorway who was making inquiries into the whereabouts of a resident.

The glass panels of the door smashed and caused severe lacerations to the male constable’s fingertips and palms.

He was taken to St George hospital for immediate treatment and due to his injuries, will remain off-duty for some time to recover.

A 51-year-old man was arrested and taken to St George Police Station and charged with reckless wounding and hinder police in execution of duty.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court tomorrow (Sunday 3 June 2018).
