Man Charged After Police Pursuit North of Wollongong

A man will face court today, following an alleged police pursuit in the Illawarra last night.

About 5.30pm yesterday (Thursday 26 June 2025), officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command were patrolling Squires way, Fairy Meadow, about 4km north of Wollongong, when they allegedly detected an unregistered vehicle.

The driver pulled over the car on Innovation Way, North Wollongong, before allegedly performing a u-turn and drove off.

When he failed to stop a pursuit was initiated.

The car has allegedly been driven through a number of streets, crossing onto the incorrect side of the road and allegedly reaching speeds of up to 90km/h in a signposted 60km/h zone.

During the pursuit the car allegedly collided with two cars on Daisy Street, Fairy Meadow.

NSW Police Ambulance responded and assessed a female driver, however she was uninjured.

Police terminated the pursuit for safety reasons.

About 5.35pm, the car was sighted on John Street, Towradgi and police re-engaged in the pursuit.

The pursuit continued before the car came to a stop at the intersection of Fairy Avenue and Cabbage Tree Lane, Fairy Meadow.

Officer attached to the Southern Operations Group tasered the driver – a 50-year-old man – before arresting him.

He was taken to Wollongong Police Station and charged with police pursuit-not stop -drive recklessly, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, class A m/v exceed speed more than 30 km/h, not stop at stop line at red light, driver never licensed and breach of bail.

He was refused bail to appear in Parramatta Court today (Friday 27 June 2025).
