Man Charged After Pyrmont Stabbing Investigation

A man has been charged and will face court after an investigation by detectives into an incident at Pyrmont last Sunday where a woman was allegedly stabbed.

About 4.50am on Sunday 13 April 2025, emergency services were called to a unit complex on Bowman Street, Pyrmont, following reports of a stabbing.

On arrival, officers attached to Sydney City Police Area Command were told a man had allegedly forced entry into the unit and stabbed a 41-year-old woman to the head before leaving.

She was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before she was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

Two other women – aged 18 and 61 - and two children were also in the home at the time.

The 18-year-old woman was also allegedly assaulted by the man and the 61-year-old woman was allegedly intimidated. They were uninjured.

The man and the 41-year-old woman are believed to be known to each other.

Police established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the incident.

Following inquiries, about 5pm on Monday 14 April 2025, detectives attached to Sydney City Police Area Command, assisted by members of the Tactical Operations Unit (TOU) and Robbery and Serious Crime Squad (R&SCS), arrested a 42-year-old man in a park at the intersection of Pitt and McEvoy Streets, Waterloo.

During the arrest, the man sustained a laceration to his head. He was treated at the scene by Ambulance Paramedics, before being taken to St Vincent's Hospital, where he received further treatment.

Following his release from hospital about 2pm today (Wednesday 16 April 2025), the man was taken to Day Street Police Station where he was charged with eight offences - four counts of aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence, destroy or damage property (DV), contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO, drive whilst disqualified and goods in custody.

The man was refused bail and will appear before Downing Centre Local Court tomorrow (Thursday 17 April 2025).
