Man charged after serious assault in Kempsey

A man has been charged following a serious domestic assault on the states Mid-North Coast last nigh, NSW Police sayt

Emergency services were called to a house on River Street, Kempsey, about 7.50pm yesterday, following reports that a woman had been assaulted.

Police will allege that a man assaulted a woman a number of times, before pouring petrol on her and threatening to light her on fire.

The man allegedly further assaulted the woman a number of times before police arrived.

Officers from Mid North Coast Local Area Command attended and arrested a 31-year-old man.

A 33-year-old woman was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Kempsey Hospital for further treatment.

The man was taken to Kempsey Police Station where he was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, armed with intent to commit a serious indictable offence, and stalk or intimidate with the intention to cause fear or harm.

The man was refused bail and will appear before Port Macquarie Local Court today.
