Man charged after shooting in Hamilton

A man will appear in court today, after being charged over a shooting in Newcastle last year, which left a man with serious facial injuries, NSW Police say.

About 10.40pm on Monday 18 December 2017, three men, one armed with a firearm, entered a unit on Gordon Avenue and spoke with the 37-year-old male occupant.

A confrontation occurred resulting in the occupant being shot in the face.

Emergency services were called and the man was treated at the scene before being taken to John Hunter Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Detectives from Newcastle City Local Area Command commenced inquiries.

About 2.25am today (Monday 12 February 2018), police patrolling in Wallsend spoke with a 36-year-old man at a home in Bent Street.

He was arrested and taken to Waratah Police Station where he was later charged with shoot with intent to murder and an outstanding warrant.

The man was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court today (Monday 12 February 2018).

One man has been charged previously in relation to this matter and remains before the courts.
