Man charged after shot fired near Maitland, NSW

A man appeared in court today after discharging a firearm in the state’s Hunter Regio, NSW Police sayn

yesterday, officers from Central Hunter Local Area Command launched an investigation after reports a man had allegedly discharged a firearm in a home at Hilldale, 30km north of Maitland.

Police attended a home on Dungog Road where they spoke with a man.

A search of the property resulted in a rifle being located and seized.

The 80-year-old man was arrested and taken to Maitland Police Station where he was charged with fire firearm in a manner likely to injure persons (DV), possess unregistered firearm, and common assault.

He was refused bail and appeared at Maitland Local Court today.

Police will allege a 71-year-old woman was at the home at the time; the incident is believed to be domestic-related.
