Man charged after stabbing in Sydney

Police have charged a man after another man was stabbed in Sydney’s CBD at the weekend, NSW Police say.

Just before 11.40pm on Sunday 8 January 2017, emergency services were called to the intersection of Bathurst Street and Day Street, after reports of an assault.

Officers from Sydney City Local Area Command attended and found a 48-year-old man with stab wounds.

He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to St Vincent’s Hospital to undergo surgery.

Police arrested a 54-year-old man who was treated by NSW Ambulance Paramedics for a head injury. He was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital under police guard; however, released today and taken to Day Street Police Station where he was arrested and charged with reckless wounding.

The man was refused bail to appear at Central Local Court tomorrow.

Inquiries are continuing.
