Man charged after threatening security and off-duty officer with knife in Fairfield

A man will face court today after he allegedly threatened a security guard and an off-duty police officer with a knife in Sydney’s south west yesterday, NSW Police say.

About 5.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 7 November 2017), a man was asked to leave a licensed premise on Alan Street, Fairfield, by a security guard.

In the car park, the man allegedly produced a knife and threatened the guard.

An off-duty police officer who was passing-by, stopped to assist.

The man then allegedly threatened the officer with the knife.

The officer called on the man to drop the weapon and it’s alleged he refused, and began walking away. He was tackled by the officer and a struggle ensued.

Officers from Fairfield Police Station attended to assist and, following a further struggle, the 46-year-old man was arrested.

The man was taken to Fairfield Police Station where he has been charged with armed with intent commit indictable offence, two counts of assault, resist officer in execution of duty, and possess or use a prohibited weapon.

He was refused bail to appear at Fairfield Local Court today (Wednesday 8 November 2017).
