Man charged after three homes broken into in Nowra

A man has been charged after allegedly breaking into three homes in Nowra last night, NSW Police say.

About 9.20pm yesterday, a 34-year-old man allegedly entered three separate homes on Cox Avenue.

Upon entering one of the homes, the man allegedly armed himself with a shard of glass and knives and barricaded himself inside.

Police were contacted and officers from Shoalhaven Local Area Command with the assistance of the Dog Unit and NSW Police Ambulance arrived and began negotiations.

The resident, an 86-year-old man, was able to leave the premises uninjured.

Following further negotiations, the 34-year-old man surrendered to officers and was arrested.

He was treated by NSW Ambulance Paramedics for minor injuries to his hands before being taken to Nowra Police Station.

No one else was injured during the incident.

The man was later charged with; break and enter, enter enclosed lands, destroy or damage property, and use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention.

He has been refused bail and is due to appear at Nowra Local Court today.
