A man has been charged after a pedestrian was seriously injured in the state's south.
About 11.10pm yesterday (Sunday 25 January 2026), emergency services responded to reports that a pedestrian and been struck by a white Toyota Hilux with ACT registration on the footpath on Parsons Street, Ulladulla, that drove from the scene.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated a 16-year-old boy at the location before he was airlifted to Canberra Hospital in a critical condition.
Officers from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command and South Coast Police District established a crime scene and commenced an investigation.
Police were informed that the boy was in company with several other persons when he was struck by the Hilux. The vehicle then drove from the scene without stopping.
Shortly before midnight it will be alleged that the Hilux was sighted by police travelling south bound along the Princes Highway, East Lynne.
Officers indicated for the vehicle to stop where it stopped in Mount Agony Road.
The 27-year-old male driver was subjected to a breath test that allegedly returned a positive reading.
A search of the vehicle allegedly located a knife and a small amount of cocaine and ecstasy.
The man was placed under arrest and taken to Batemans Bay Police Station.
A breath analysis allegedly returned a reading of 0.091.
A drug test allegedly returned a positive result to cocaine and ecstasy which will undergo further analysis before any further action is taken.
The Canberra man was charged with 11 offences including:
- Dangerous driving occasioning GBH - drive manner dangerous
- Negligent driving (occasions grievous bodily harm)
- Fail to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing GBH
- Not give particulars to injured person
- Cause bodily harm by misconduct, in charge of motor vehicle
- Drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous
- Drive with mid range PCA and illicit drug
- Carry cutting weapon upon apprehension
- Custody of knife in public place
- Possess prohibited drug (two counts)
He was refused bail to appear at Bail Division – Court 3 today (Monday 26 January 2026) where the man was remanded in custody to appear at Batemans Bay Local Court on Monday 23 February 2026.
