Man charged following armed robbery of 78-year-old woman in Lurnea

A man will appear in court today after allegedly robbing a 78-year-old woman at knife-point in Lurnea last month, NSW Police say.

About 7.15pm on Monday 31 October 2016, a man allegedly forced his way into a home on Hill Road when he was confronted by a 78-year-old woman in the premises.

Police will allege the woman attempted to leave the home when the unknown man produced a knife and placed it to her throat, demanding keys to her car.

The man fled a short time later in the woman’s Ford Festiva. The woman alerted a neighbour, who contacted police.

Officers from Liverpool Local Area Command attended and established a crime scene.

Following inquiries, police attempted to stop a 30-year-old man at a home on Liverpool Street, Cabramatta today.

The man fled on foot, however was arrested a short distance away when police located heroin and cash allegedly in his possession.

The man was taken to Liverpool Police Station where he was charged with aggravated break and enter (commit serious indictable offence), robbery armed with offensive weapon, steal motor vehicle and drive motor vehicle while licence suspended.

The man was refused bail, to appear at Parramatta Local Court tomorrow.
