A man is in hospital and another has been charged following an alleged street race and crash at Carnes Hill yesterday, NSW Police say.
About 6.40pm (Sunday 11 March 2018), a black Mazda RX-7 and a white Toyota 86 coupe were reportedly racing on Cowpasture Road, when the driver of the Mazda crossed to the other side of the road and hit a tree.
The driver of the Mazda, a 40-year-old man, was trapped in the vehicle for some time before being released by emergency services.
He was taken by NSW Ambulance paramedics to Liverpool Hospital with critical head injuries.
The driver of the Toyota reportedly left the scene before police arrived.
Officers from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit attended and established a crime scene which was forensically examined.
The driver of the Toyota, a 22-year-old man returned to the crash site later that evening and was arrested at the scene.
He was taken to Liverpool Hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests before being taken to Liverpool police station.
Following inquiries, the Toyota coupe was located at an address in Prestons and was seized as an exhibit for forensic analysis.
The man was later charged with drive manner dangerous and organise, promote etc race between vehicles and was granted conditional bail to appear at Liverpool Local Court on Wednesday 4 April 2018.
