About 9.40am on Friday 8 August 2025, police allegedly observed a man transport and place a deceased cow into the Macleay River.

After speaking with the man, police established that several deceased cattle had allegedly been placed into McCabes Drain and the Macleay River in recent weeks.

Following inquiries, police issued a court attendance notice to a 79-year-old man today (Tuesday 19 August 2025) for two counts of pollute waters.

He is due to appear before Kempsey Local Court on Thursday 2 October 2025.
