A man has been charged after he allegedly posted a threatening letter to a mosque in Sydney's south west last week.
Officers attached to Campsie Police Area Command were called to a mosque on Wangee Road, Lakemba, about 4pm Thursday (22 January 2026), following reports a threatening letter had been received by staff.
The letter was seized for forensic examination.
Officers attached to the Counter Terrorism and Special Tactics Command Security Investigation Unit commenced an investigation into the incident.
Following extensive inquiries, police executed a search warrant at an address on Burwood Road, Burwood, about 6pm yesterday (Saturday 24 January 2026).
Police seized more than 100 letters, stamps, notepads, and several electronic devices.
A 70-year-old man was arrested and taken to Campsie Police Station where he was charged with three counts of send document threatening death or grievous bodily harm.
The man has been refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 7 today (Sunday 25 January 2026).
