Man charged, handgun and knife seized during vehicle stop in Menai

A man has been charged with thirteen offences following a vehicle stop in Sydney’s south today, NSW Police say.

About 10.20am today, officers from Sutherland Local Area Command were patrolling on Alfords Point Road, Menai, when they stopped a blue Toyota sedan.

Police spoke to the driver, a 23-year-old man, and his passenger, a 15-year-old boy, before searching them and the vehicle.

During the search, officers allegedly found a number of items including a knife, handgun, clothing, electronics, and several fraudulent drivers’ licences.

These have been taken for forensic examination.

Both pair were arrested and taken to Sutherland Police Station.

The 23-year-old man was charged with possess unauthorised pistol, custody of knife in public place and goods in custody suspected being stolen (x11).

He has been refused bail to appear at Sutherland Local Court tomorrow.

The 15-year-old boy was released pending further inquiries.

Investigations are ongoing.
