Man Charged in $140K Crypto Theft in Dubbo

Detectives have charged a man over allegedly stealing $140,000 worth of cryptocurrency.

In November 2024, detectives attached to Orana Mid Western Police District commenced an investigation following reports $140,000 worth of cryptocurrency had been stolen from an account belonging to a 29-year-old man.

Following extensive inquiries, investigators – with assistance from officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District and State Crime Command's Cybercrime Squad – executed a search warrant at a home in Barrack Point this morning (Tuesday 4 November 2025).

During the search, officers seized several electronic devices which will be forensically examined.

The occupant, a 36-year-old man, was arrested and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station.

He was charged with dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception.

Police will allege in court that the man accessed the 29-year-old man's account and transferred $140,000 worth of cryptocurrency.

The man was granted conditional bail to appear before Port Kembla Local Court on Wednesday 3 December 2025.
