Man Charged in $3M Telco Fraud: NSW Cybercrime Squad

A man will face court today, charged by Cybercrime Squad detectives under Strike Force Jarley after a telco was allegedly defrauded $3 million.

Strike Force Jarley was established in October 2023 by State Crime Command's Cybercrime Squad to investigate reports a telephone company was allegedly defrauded approximately $3 million by one of its employees.

Following extensive inquiries, about 8.30am on Thursday 9 November 2023, emergency services executed a search warrant at a home in Guildford where they arrested a 34-year-old man.

During a search of the address, police located and seized electronics, cryptocurrency and a vehicle.

The man was taken to Granville Police Station, where he was charged with fraud, dealing with the proceeds of crime and unauthorised modification of data.

He was granted strict conditional bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court today (Tuesday 5 December 2023).

Police will allege in court the man was employed in a position of responsibility within the company, through which he unlawfully obtained over 1,500 high-end mobile phones and accessories and sold them for cash on various marketplace websites.
